Predicting the 2025 Oscars: My Wild Guess at the Nominees (and Why I Might Be Totally Wrong!)

I'm no film critic, just a huge movie buff who’s obsessed with awards season. This year feels particularly tricky. We've got a ton of buzzworthy films already released – and even more on the horizon – which makes predicting anything near accurate basically impossible. Best Picture: My Gut Feeling (and Why It Could Be Way Off)

Predicting Best Picture is like trying to catch a greased pig. It's slippery and unpredictable. But I'm going to give it a shot anyway. I think we’ll see some serious contenders like:

• The highly-anticipated superhero sequel everyone's been talking about. This one is a safe bet, I think. Everyone's excited for it. It's got big stars, a huge budget, and marketing that's been building for years.

• That historical drama everyone's already calling a masterpiece. This one might win Best Picture if the critics really go crazy for it. I bet it will get a whole lot of nominations.

• That indie film that everyone's already raving about. This one is a wildcard, I admit. It's smaller, not as much hype, but indie darlings can often surprise everyone. It’s one to watch.

I could be totally wrong, though. There’s a chance some smaller movies that no one's heard of yet could dominate the nominations! That happens sometimes, right?

Best Director: A Tough Call, Even For Me

Predicting Best Director is equally tricky. It often overlaps with Best Picture, but not always. My educated guess?

• The director of that superhero sequel. They're practically a lock, unless the movie bombs spectacularly. I mean they were nominated last time, maybe this time they’ll win?

• The director of that historical drama. They’ve got the prestige factor going for them. The awards are made for films like these.

• A surprising newcomer. This is where things get really wild. Sometimes a smaller film comes out of nowhere and takes home a directorial award. It’s always an exciting surprise!

Remember: This is all just speculation! Film critics may disagree with my choices; I have heard that several sources point to other directors.

My Biggest Mistake (and What I Learned)

I'll admit, I totally whiffed on predicting the Best Supporting Actor last year. I was so sure a certain actor would win, and I was dead wrong. It taught me a valuable lesson: Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Look at the whole picture—pun intended—and don't get fixated on individual performances or trends.
