Remember that super-fancy silk drape I bought for my living room? Yeah, well, that nearly became a giant inferno. You’re frying spring rolls, steaming dumplings, and juggling a million other things at once. And grease fires? They’re the worst.

My grease fire story: Okay, I’m not proud of this, but I once left a pan of oil unattended while making some amazing sesame balls for the New Year celebration. I had walked away only briefly! But that was enough time for the oil to get way too hot, smoke started billowing, and I had a full-blown grease fire on my hands. Thankfully I reacted fast – keep a fire extinguisher handy! I knew exactly what to do because of safety training. And I now know, never to leave unattended anything that is close to a heat source.

Pro Tip: Never leave cooking unattended, even for a minute. Keep your stovetop clean and free of clutter. Use a kitchen timer! I personally do this for all dishes, even the ones I think I know super well.

Electrical Overload – Don't Overload Those Outlets!

With all those festive lights and decorations, electrical overload is a real possibility during Lunar New Year. And that's a big no-no.

Think about it; you've got your string lights, your lanterns, maybe even a karaoke machine and an air fryer going at the same time. It all adds up! I've seen it happen with overloaded power strips in the past, sparking and blowing a fuse. It's not just dangerous, it's a party killer!

Prevention is Key: Use surge protectors and don't plug too many appliances into one outlet. If you're unsure, get a qualified electrician to check your wiring and circuits. It’s worth the peace of mind.
