My Initial Impressions: A Fast-Paced Thriller?

First off, the pacing was insane. I mean, seriously, page-turner doesn't even begin to cover it. Baldoni throws you right into the action from the very first chapter, no messing around. That said, the sheer speed of the plot sometimes felt a little… rushed. Like, certain character developments felt a bit underdeveloped for me. It’s a tradeoff, I guess. You get this relentless thrill ride, but at the cost of some depth. Which, honestly, wasn't a total deal-breaker for me. I was too busy trying to figure out whodunnit!

Character Development: Hit and Miss

Speaking of characters, I had mixed feelings about them. The main protagonist, I can’t remember his name now (my brain's a sieve!), was compelling enough, although maybe a little too perfect at times. Seriously, the guy was like a super-powered detective, able to solve problems most of us could only dream of. This could deter readers who prefer more relatable and flawed protagonists. That's something to consider when picking your next thriller. It definitely felt like a bit of a trope at times, and it's an element that made some reviews more critical.

The Plot Twists: OMG!

But, oh my god, the plot twists! Baldoni is a master of suspense. I genuinely did not see the ending coming, which is rare for me. Usually, I have that "aha!" moment somewhere in the middle of most thrillers, but Lively kept me guessing until the very last page. There were a couple of moments where I thought I'd figured it out – I even tried to predict some twists and turns – but I was SO wrong. He completely threw me off, and I loved every second of it. Okay, I'll admit something dumb. Because I was so hooked, I tore through Lively in like, three days. I don't usually do that, usually I pace myself to savor the story. Looking back, I probably missed some subtle clues or details. Lesson learned: Even with a page-turner, take your time. Enjoy the ride; it's more fun that way.

Would I Recommend it?

Absolutely! Despite a few minor quibbles (those character quirks!), Lively is a seriously thrilling read. If you're looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, definitely give it a shot. Just maybe don't read it as fast as I did! You'll thank me later.
