Chalamet's SNL: A Review You Won't Forget (Probably)
Okay, so let's talk about Timothée Chalamet hosting Saturday Night Live. I'm a huge fan, like, obsessed is probably a better word. And I've seen pretty much every episode since, like, 2008, so I felt I had some serious cred going into this. I even prepped my snacks — gourmet popcorn, the whole shebang! But man, was I in for a ride.
The Good, The Bad, and the…Okay?
First off, Chalamet's charisma is undeniable. The guy's got this quiet intensity that’s captivating on screen, and it kinda translated to the SNL stage. Some of his monologues were genuinely funny. Like that bit about being a "serious actor" – I almost choked on my popcorn laughing. Seriously, that line alone was worth the price of admission (or streaming, I guess). He’s got this charming awkwardness that made him relatable, even though, you know, he's Timothée Chalamet.
Monologue Mayhem: A Hit (Mostly)
However, some bits felt a little…forced. I think they tried too hard to play up the "serious actor" thing, and it fell a little flat in a few spots. It wasn't a complete disaster, mind you. There were some genuinely funny moments, but it felt like they missed a few opportunities to really showcase his comedic range. Maybe they should've gone for more self-deprecating humor; that usually lands well with the audience. Remember that time John Mulaney hosted? Pure comedic genius, mostly because he wasn't afraid to make fun of himself.
Skits & Sketches: A Mixed Bag
The sketches themselves were a mixed bag. Some were hilarious, others...well, let's just say I may have accidentally fallen asleep during one or two. There was this one sketch with a bunch of puppets – I'm still not entirely sure what was going on. I need to rewind and watch that one again! I think I blinked and missed the whole thing. But hey, that's SNL, right? Hit or miss, more miss than hit that night in my opinion. It's all part of the experience.
What Could've Been Better?
Looking back, I think they could have leaned more into Chalamet's personality outside of the whole "serious actor" stereotype. Maybe a musical performance? He's got a really nice voice. Show off those vocal cords, Timothée! Or maybe some sketches that poked fun at his intense fanbase – that's always a goldmine for comedic material. Think of the potential meme material!
A Missed Opportunity?
Another thing: the musical guests. While I’m not the biggest fan of their music, I think having someone with a more diverse musical style might have balanced the show. They could have gotten someone more exciting or unexpected that would have really shaken things up. But overall, it wasn’t awful. It just wasn't particularly memorable beyond the monologue and one or two of the sketches.
Final Verdict: A Solid 6/10
Ultimately, Chalamet's SNL hosting gig was...okay. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever seen. It certainly wasn't the worst, either. It wasn't bad, but it didn't leave me thinking, "Wow, that was amazing!" I mean, he's a talented guy, but he wasn’t given the best material to work with. It felt like a missed opportunity to really show the world his comedic side. But hey, at least he didn't fall flat on his face. And who knows? Maybe next time will be a complete home run. Maybe I'll even forget about the puppet sketch.
