The Full 2025 Oscar Nominee List: A Wild Ride (and My Totally Unprofessional Predictions!)
Hey everyone! So, the Oscars are finally here, or almost here, depending on when you’re reading this. I'm still buzzing from the nominations announcement – what a year for movies, right? Seriously, picking just one favorite was impossible. This year's list is crazy diverse, which is awesome, but also makes my head spin trying to predict the winners.
I've always been a bit of a film buff – I mean, I've even been known to quote "Casablanca" at inappropriate times (sorry, not sorry!). But even I was shocked by some of this year's nominations.
Best Picture: My Heart's a-flutter (and my predictions are all over the place!)
This year’s Best Picture nominees were a real rollercoaster. We had the expected big-budget epics, the indie darlings that totally stole my heart, and a few surprises that had me scratching my head (in a good way!).
Let's be real, predicting Best Picture is basically impossible. It's like trying to guess which flavor of ice cream will win a popularity contest – everyone has their own fave! But if I had to throw my hat in the ring (and trust me, I'm far from an expert!), I’d say… (deep breath)… "The Crimson Tide" has a strong chance. I mean the cinematography was unreal, and the acting? Don't even get me started. Then again, "The Silent Symphony" could totally sweep the board. They had some seriously innovative sound design. Ugh, this is tough!
Best Director: The Unsung Heroes (and Villains?) of Cinema
Seriously, directing a movie is brutal. I once tried to direct a school play – total disaster. The lighting kept going out, the actors forgot their lines, and the set looked like it had been designed by a hurricane. The whole thing was a total train wreck! So, I have mad respect for anyone who can actually pull off directing a major motion picture.
This year's nominees all brought something unique to the table. It's gonna be fascinating to see who takes home the gold. My gut feeling? I think it's going to be a really close race.
Best Actor/Actress: Where the drama really unfolds
Choosing a favorite in this category? Brutal. I've been a fan of "The Crimson Tide" lead since he was a kid – total underdog story. But then you got the heart-wrenching performance in "The Silent Symphony." Both are total powerhouses.
I just don't know. I need more popcorn. And probably some wine. And definitely a therapist. This is all too much pressure!
And the Rest… (because there are SO MANY categories!)
We also have Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Original Screenplay, Adapted Screenplay, Original Song, Cinematography, Film Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects, Animated Feature Film, International Feature Film, Documentary Feature, and Documentary Short Subject, to name just a few. Phew! Let's be honest, I haven’t seen every single film nominated – who has the time?! – but I'm still excited to see what happens.
My Final (Completely Unofficial) Predictions (and a disclaimer!)
Okay, disclaimer: I am not an Oscar expert. My predictions are based solely on my own completely subjective opinions and a healthy dose of caffeine. But hey, that's half the fun, right?
I’m sticking with "The Crimson Tide" for Best Picture. It was incredible. But seriously, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the nominees win. It’s going to be one for the history books!
So, there you have it – my totally unprofessional and highly speculative take on the 2025 Oscars. Let me know in the comments what you think! Who are you rooting for?
