Oscars 2025: Complete Nominee List (Speculation and Predictions)

Hey everyone! So, the Oscars are still a ways off – we're talking 2025! – but I'm already itching to speculate. I mean, who doesn't love a good awards season prediction? It's like a fun, cinematic version of the office pool, right? This year I'm going to try and be more strategic about it, though. Last year, I was way off base. I totally missed the mark on the Best Picture winner; I thought "Asteroid City" was a shoe-in, but, boy, was I wrong! So, this time, I'm doing my homework.

• A major Netflix/Apple original: Streaming giants are increasingly vying for Oscar glory. Expect at least one major contender from the streaming giants, whether it be a historical epic, a gripping thriller, or a poignant drama. The thing about streaming is it makes it easier to access movies for wider audiences, and that is something to note.

Best Director: I'm betting on Denis Villeneuve for "Dune: Part Two" again. But a dark horse might be Greta Gerwig (if she directs another project). She's consistently brilliant, and the Oscars love to reward consistent brilliance.

Best Actor: This one's tricky. So many talented actors! I'm going to throw out a name: Leonardo DiCaprio. He's always a strong contender. But, hey, I could be completely off-base. The talent pool in Hollywood is massive. It’s crazy to think how many amazing actors there are.

Best Actress: This category is equally challenging to predict. The rise of strong female roles in cinema will make this category competitive. I'm guessing on a relatively unknown star who will break out into the spotlight, probably based on a critically acclaimed indie film.

Best Supporting Actor & Best Supporting Actress: My crystal ball is kinda foggy here, guys! This usually comes down to incredible performances in ensemble casts. I would prefer to wait to watch those films and then make a judgement.

Let me be clear: these are just guesses. A lot can change between now and the Oscars in 2025. But, making predictions is half the fun, right? It’s a fun way to engage with what is currently coming out.
