Hey everyone, so I'm writing this because, well, let's just say I've learned a few hard lessons about generator safety. • Proper ventilation is key. Generators produce carbon monoxide, a deadly gas. Always operate your generator outdoors in a well-ventilated area, far away from windows, doors, and vents. This will prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

• Use the right kind of fuel. Check your owner’s manual for the recommended fuel type and grade. Using the wrong fuel can damage your generator. And never fill it while it's running!

• Get a qualified electrician to check your wiring. If you're not comfortable with electrical work, get help from a professional. Improper wiring can lead to electrical shocks, fires, and even death. Seriously, safety first. This is not something to mess around with.

Horry County experiences its share of severe weather. Power outages are unfortunately a part of life here. But we can minimize the risks associated with generator use. I'm not an expert, but here is some additional information to keep in mind.

You don't want to push the machine to its limits. Also, think about getting a generator that has the ability to run on propane or natural gas.

Generator Maintenance:

Regular maintenance is critical for safe and reliable operation. This includes changing the oil and air filter and cleaning or replacing spark plugs. You should also have it serviced periodically by a professional. Think of your generator as a car – it needs regular maintenance too.
