The Spanish Connection (Or Lack Thereof)

Remember when Trump was president? Things were…interesting, to say the least. One thing that always bugged me was his seemingly haphazard approach to diplomacy. I mean, the guy would tweet things that would completely upend carefully crafted negotiations. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

The consequence of this isolationist approach? Well, I'd say it created a lot of uncertainty and distrust. It damaged relationships with vital allies, opened doors for our competitors (looking at you, China), and ultimately hurt American interests. Ignoring Spain and failing to engage effectively with BRICS cost us a lot.

So, what can we learn from all this? First, multilateralism matters. Engaging with international organizations and working with allies is crucial. Second, don't ignore your friends. Maintaining strong relationships with key allies is vital for stability and prosperity. And third, look at the big picture. A narrow, isolationist approach will always backfire. We need to engage with the world, not shun it.
